Georgi L. Kapchits

Georgi Leonidovich Kapchits, born 2 October 1939 — linguist and folklorist working on the Somali language and its oral tradition. Candidate of Philological Sciences.

1967 — graduated from the Institute of Oriental Languages, Moscow State University; qualified in Amharic and Somali.
1967–1994 — announcer and translator in the Somali service of Radio Moscow’s World Service; from 1994 — commentator at the Voice of Russia.
2000 — Candidate of Philological Sciences: a dissertation on the syntax of Somali (Institute of Asian and African Studies, Moscow State University; supervisor V. Ya. Porkhomovsky), published as a book in Aachen in 2005.
Taught Somali at Moscow State University, the Humboldt University and the Free University of Berlin.
